various schools in Singapore

Commedia dell' Arte: This form of theatre originated in Italy in the 16th century and quickly spread all across Europe, playing a crucial role in the development of Western theatre. Playwrights who have been influenced by this style include Shakespeare, Moliere and Goldoni to name just a few. It is still popular today and can be found appearing even in movies and on TV.

The main features and tasks of this workshop on Commedia dell'Arte are: - the role of stock characters, the use of mask, mime techniques, lots of humour, appealing to audiences of all ages. - group work, body break out, body mastering, expressing feelings, space mastering.

As this form of theatre uses a great deal of movement and mime, language is not such an important factor, making this ideal for students who come from different language/cultural backgrounds.

These workshops are of flexible duration with possibilities ranging from one day up to several weeks.

Workshop director is Marco Luly, artistic director from "I Luoghi dell'arte", Rome, and actor.

Born in Rome in 1954, Marco has more then 30 years experience in theatre, ranging from contemporary to medieval drama.

In 1990, Marco founded Luoghi dell' Arte in Rome, and has been Artistic Director of the Company since then.

Marco' s area of specialization is in the production of Commedia dell' Arte, Medieval Theatre and plays by the Father of Italian Comedy, Carlo Goldoni.

From 1990, his portfolio has increased to include directing and writing plays for Luoghi dell' Arte.

He is committed to reviving Medieval and Commedia dell' Arte Theatre, and has won distinctions for rediscovering medieval and renaissance period manuscripts and adapting them in a modern style.

He has conducted classes on Commedia dell' Arte history and techniques, given lectures, and has worked in cross-cultural productions with students and actors in many countries, taking part on Theatre Festivals for students and teachers. He is guest member/lecturer of ISTA (Int.al School Theatre Association) and has given lectures and workshops worldwide on occasion of festivals and events organized by this association.
